Introducing Evelyn & Kate

The story of EVELYN & KATE begins with childhood friends, original oil paintings, and an unexpected return to a familiar place.

In the late 1990s/ early 2000s, Evelyn Lafave McCarthy painted and exhibited her large-scale abstract landscapes at Lafave Studios Ltd., her studio and gallery on Murray Hill in Cleveland’s Little Italy. Years later, her childhood friend and fellow artist Kate Geraci moved into the same space and established Amoré Gallery as her art studio, and a place to exhibit her paintings and host open houses and artist workshops.

In 2020, Kate invited Evelyn back to the Gallery for a solo show and following that, several joint exhibitions. Displayed together, Evelyn and Kate’s paintings created an unexpected harmony of color, florals, abstract landscapes and Impressionist-like imagery.

And then there was a gift.

As a gesture of gratitude, Evelyn reimagined elements from both of their original paintings as repeating patterns and printed those designs onto Placemats and Napkins. She presented them to Kate as a gift.

The combination was joyful and unexpected—bright stripes, florals, color and imagery from two very different painting styles suddenly working together in an entirely new way. Seeing their artwork move beyond the canvas and onto textiles sparked an idea.

The brand EVELYN & KATE was born.

EVELYN & KATE brand began exploring their patterns across Fashion Accessories and Home Décor. Products became available direct to consumer and through multiple retail channels, resorts, museum stores and boutiques. You can now find EVELYN & KATE products for sale in the UK, Caribbean, and across the United States.

At the heart of it all, Every EVELYN & KATE pattern is designed from an original oil painting created by Evelyn or Kate.

Today, Evelyn leads EVELYN & KATE brand and the development and distribution of its growing product line, while continuing to nurture her love of making large-scale abstract landscape paintings. Kate’s landscape, portrait, still life, garden and abstract paintings continue to appeal to a broad community and she hosts frequent exhibitions, often featuring select artists at Amoré Gallery.

From that Gift of Placemats and Napkins has grown a distinctive offering of Totes, Silk Scarves, Accessories and Home Décor and a focus on making Evelyn and Kate’s art more accessible through every-day items. Their mission:
